Thinking we would stay in the quiet little town of Eching on Christmas, we didn’t make any plans until our hosts asked what our plans were for the day. Since many places would be closed, we didn’t have many options. Aunt An suggested Dachau, but Gus thought it to be too depressing and recommended something more entertaining-like an airplane museum. He thought we were crazy to pick Dachau on Christmas day, but our eyes were opened simply by walking the grounds. History textbooks could never replicate the sights and elicit the same chills I felt just by being there.
“Work sets you free” sign was replaced last year after it had been stolen.

Never forget.
